Surrogacy
Surrogacy is an assisted reproduction method, allowed subsequent to a court-issued permit, in which a woman becomes pregnant and gives birth (surrogate mother) following IVF and the transfer of fertilized eggs foreign to her, on behalf of another woman who wishes to have a child but cannot get pregnant for serious medical reasons.
Surrogacy is permitted up to the age of natural reproductive ability of the assisted person as determined by Greek Law, i.e. 50 years of age. With this method, the Center’s team achieved the first successful twin pregnancy in Greece, about 25 years ago.
