It was 22 months ago, when my husband and I started trying for a baby. We thought it would be easy and we did not stress out at all. However, many months had gone by and nothing was happening. After six months, I started having somewhere deep inside me the belief that I would finally not get what I had been dreaming of, ever since I was a little girl, i.e. be a mum, so I visited my gynecologist. After several tests, my doctor informed me that I had no chance of conceiving without treatment. IVF was the only way ahead.

I didn’t give it a second thought. We started immediately. I had many IVF cycles, always hoping that we would make it this time, but we kept getting the same result. An IVF failure.

In 2020, we decided to have another go and this is how we came from Germany to Greece and, more specifically, Thessaloniki. Our first visit to FIVI, the Unit of Medically Assisted Reproduction, was nothing like our previous experience of similar units in our home country. We were welcomed by smiling faces and the FIVI staff were there to explain to us what the process would be, down to the last detail.

In February 2020 we had the embryo transfer. A few days later, I had an HCG pregnancy test. My HCG levels were…845. My husband was sitting next to me and we were both crying like babies.

As I am writing these words, I am 26 weeks pregnant, and we can’t wait to hold this little “miracle” in our arms.

Thank you FIVI. You made our dream come true!
